19th century apothecary cabinet with original glass front and a vertical lift door mechanism. Once used to house laboratory scales, the proportions and build are unmistakably Victorian. The glass panel lifts smoothly and the interior has that dry, time softened look that only real age gives. The cabinet is made from a warm toned hardwood with its original maker’s plate intact, adding to its provenance and appeal.

These were specialist pieces made for chemists and laboratories, not general household furniture, which makes surviving examples harder to find. Perfect for displaying curiosities, small antiques or as a standalone decorative object with real history.

Hand painted triptych icon sourced abroad, with richly coloured scenes and gilt background. The central panel depicts the Madonna and Child in traditional stylised form, surrounded by saints and protective figures on the two hinged wings. Each section is painted by hand with fine outlining, bright pigments and layered gold tones that catch the light beautifully.

The exterior doors are decorated with floral motifs, giving the piece a softer folk art feel when closed. Open it up and the interior has real impact, with the full triptych layout and detailed storytelling scenes. Light age wear to the paint and wood, nothing that takes from the look. A striking devotional object and a collectible example of hand painted icon work.

  • Antique religious icon with an embossed metal oklad and hand painted faces, sourced in Sardinia. The metal cover is richly worked with floral and symbolic detailing, all done by hand and showing real age. The painted faces of the Madonna and Child are visible through the openings, giving the piece depth and that layered, devotional look associated with older icons.

The metal has oxidised and darkened over time, and the wooden panel beneath shows age movement, which is exactly what you want to see on a piece of this period. Icons with this level of hand tooling, intact panels and original painted insert are becoming harder to find, especially outside their countries of origin.
